Deputy President William Ruto's son, Nick Ruto has responded to gay claims after a video showing him receiving a pendant from a white man went viral on social media.

In the video, the man in question could be seen placing the pendant around Nick's neck as he smiled amid cheers from the background.

The video sparked a debate with a section of social media users accusing the DP's son of being gay.

However, he has since issued a statement on the same highlighting the need of celebrating each other and offering gifts to each other on special occasions like birthdays.

Nick further dismissed gay claims, noting that receiving a gift from a friend of the same gender does not amount to a sexual relationship.

"Build your circle and celebrate each other. If you can, gift your friends the best you can on their special occasions like Birthdays, Anniversaries, weddings," he wrote.

He added;

"This will help you understand the value of friendship and comprehend that gifting a friend of the same or opposite gender does not amount to a sexual/erotic relationship. Thank you all for your Birthday wishes and gifts."
