Former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has shared news about the recovery of Kimani Mbugua, a former Citizen TV presenter, and Eunice Omollo, a former NTV Health and Science journalist.

In a statement on Tuesday, October 15, Sonko updated the public on the two ex-journalists, who are now receiving care at the Mombasa Women Empowerment Network Mental Rescue Center.

"Jameni kuna Mungu mbinguni na acheni aitwe Mungu. Former royal media journalist Kimani Mbugua and his Ntv colleague Eunice Omollo are healed and fully recovered. Hata Nasibo Kabale anaendelea vizuri sana, but we respect her family’s decision ya ku avoid media for now."

In a video that has gone viral, Kimani Mbugua was all smiles as he sang a rendition of Sauti Sol's popular song Feel My Love.

Explaining his recovery, Mbugua expressed gratitude to the former governor noting, "Whatever you have done for me, only God can pay you back. Thank you so much to the community in Miritini and Mike Sonko. As you can see, I have gained weight here in Mombasa. I've enjoyed staying here. Were it not for other commitments, I would have extended my stay."

In May 2024, the former journalist openly admitted that he was struggling with his mental health.

Former Nairobi governor Mike Sonko also offered to take him to rehab.

In a past interview with Oga Obinna, Kimani's father said his son's mental issues started after his drink was allegedly spiked at a party.
