Smochas are a popular street food in Kenya, consisting of a combination of chapati and smokie.

They are loved by majority of Kenyans since they are quite affordable  and fill the stomach well.

The food does not take much effort and money to prepare – and that’s why many people like it.

All you need are smokies, chapatis, kachumbari; a combination of chopped-up tomatoes and onions, and your favourite source to prepare a good wrap.

Things have however taken a different turn after the introduction of various variations of the delicacy.

According to a video shared by digital creator, Latino Brayo, vendors have gotten creative and are introducing various fillings to the original smocha.

Latino Brayo shared a video of the new variations which includes the combination of smocha with githeri and eggs.

Others included smocha with Omena, smocha with avocado, smocha with sweet potatoes among others.

Kenyans in social media have reacted to the introduction of these delicacies with some suggesting that originality of smocha should not be interfered with.

Maseka: " Omena smokie na chapo pamoja should be illegal and punishable by law."

Toffee: " Chapati has really suffered in the hands of hawkers. Si mwachane tu na chapati ibaki tu ya Christmas."

Sharon Shajema: " This is violation of chapati rights πŸ’”πŸ˜ I’m so mad πŸ˜‚."
