Safaricom has introduced an expiry date for Bonga Points citing that subscribers have not been utilizing the service

Unredeemed Bonga Points will now expire after three years. This will encourage redemption and unlock the underlying revenue that totalled Sh4.5 billion as of March.

“The accumulated Bonga points will be expiring after three years. We have noticed that they are usually dormant hence becoming a liability to us if unclaimed.”

Bonga Points are earned by subscribers after recharging their safaricom lines with airtime.

They can be redeemed for calls, Sms, data paying bills and a bigger amount can be used to buy a phone.

Subscribers usually earn one Bonga point for every Sh10 spent on the Safaricom network on voice, mobile data and SMS, and for every Sh100 spent on the network for M-Pesa transactions.

Clients who have subscribed to Bonga Points have been advised to redeem them before the expiry date to avoid losses.
