Kenyan dancer Moya David has responded after receiving backlash for revealing he was going to patent his dance moves.
Speaking in an interview with Mungai Eve, Moya David said fans misunderstood him.
The dancer said it was about his brand and to own and copyright the dance for future purposes. He said that even the songs he uses are copyrighted and sometimes musicians pay him to promote the songs.
"There is a time when someone wanted to buy the dance. For someone to sell, you have to copyright it so that it is legally yours. Even the songs I use are copyrighted, the loyalties go to the owners. If you don't protect your work, anyone can just take it."
The purpose of copyrighting the dance was to prove he owns it Incase people want it for business and promotions.
Moya David has certificates for his choreography but this does not mean he is against people using it for fun.
"As long as you are using the dance to enjoy yourself I have no problem. Legal actions will only apply to people using my content for business without my permission."
Moya David said he is grateful for the support he has been receiving from his fans and he is glad that people are embracing the act of gifting and showing love to their loved ones. He revealed that so far he has surprised over 2500 people.
The dancer is looking to recruit more people to his crew and to create job opportunities for male and female dancers in the country.
