Kenyan musician and former member of the Kansoul George Muigai common by stage name rapper Madtraxx has revealed what led to the breakup of their music group and the problems he had working with Mejja.
Speaking in an interview with Iko nini podcast, Madtraxx said he got into the music industry to experiment and elevate the game. This was however not the case with Mejja whose main aim was to create hit songs with no time for experiments.
He noted that Mejja always wanted perfect music that could hit airwaves instantly because, for him, it is always about money.
"You know I may not know his full background but the little I know on him as my friend is that he is the breadwinner. Whereas I, the reasons why I got to music were to elevate the game now when everyone was doing what we were doing, now it has been called gengetone, this is now a formula, a template, now me I can’t stand starting from a template, that just can’t happen where I am going to do this thing again. The group members : Madtraxx, Mejja and Kid Kora had different priorities and at some point they had a drift due to difference in opinions.
"No Woman No Party’ was a fictional song created by the Kansoul. Kora and I believed in it, but Mejja just loves the song but doesn’t think this is a song we should be shooting a video for. I was willing to take musical risks, but he was not."
Madtraxx also set the record straight concerning Kid Kora's allegations of not being appreciated by the group.
"I don’t know why he didn’t feel appreciated but to be honest, when he said that I was thrown off."
In 2021 The Kansoul star Kid Kora announced that he left the music group, citing withheld payments, degrading music and his peace of mind.
In a series of posts on his Instagram stories, Kid Kora accused Mejja and Madtraxx of giving him the short end of the stick. He said they still owe him money, dubbing them ‘blue-eyed monsters’.
The Kansoul break up came as a surprise as it was at the top of the game in the country.
