Njeri, the first wife to popular Kikuyu singer Muigai wa Njoroge, has shared details about her marriage life and the reason why she left after 12 years.

In a recent interview, Njeri shared that polygamy was one of her greatest childhood fears since she grew up in a home where her dad had two households.

Recalling how she met her husband, Njeri revealed she met Muigai who had visited where she lived with a friend. After three days, the two got married and she conceived immediately and later gave birth to their firstborn daughter who is now 21 years.

Njeri Muigai enjoyed marital bliss until her husband married a second wife. She said Muigai had opened up to her about his desire for a polygamous marriage after barely two months into their marriage.

Muigai married his second wife Queen Stacy nine years into their marriage. He later moved in with her leaving Njeri alone with their children.

As a result, she fell into alcoholism and for about two years, she would drink every day and sometimes overnight to deal with the pain. After 5 years she however accepted her co-wife.

Njeri spoke openly about the challenges in her marriage when asked if she was still married to the gospel artist.

"Tulishindwa! Ati am I married? Not anymore! Not anymore! We tried, I don’t want to blame anyone because we tried, but unfortunately, it never worked, and that is the saddest thing. It never worked, anger became the danger."

Njeri refrained from disclosing specific details regarding legal proceedings or the timeline of events surrounding their separation.

Last year, Muigai Wa Njoroge brought Ndeiya to a standstill with a swanky event as he led his team in paying dowry for his second wife, Queen Stacey.
