Billy Chemirmir, a Kenyan man convicted of killing two people and accused in the deaths of nearly two dozen others was killed by his cellmate in a state prison Tuesday morning, the Texas Department of Criminal Justice .
Chemirmir, 50, was indicted on 22 capital murder charges: 13 in Dallas County and nine in Collin County.
He was convicted by Dallas County juries last year in the 2018 slayings of two women and was given two life sentences without the possibility of parole as Dallas County prosecutors did not seek the death penalty. The Collin County district attorney’s office said last month it also was not seeking capital punishment.
Information from his past court appearances and interviews with American media indicates that Chemirmir is originally from Eldama Ravine, Baringo County.
He grew up with his 27 siblings from his father’s three wives.
He moved to the United States in 2003, where he sold cars and began working as a senior caregiver in Dallas.
police say Chemirmir used the work to get into luxury senior living communities in Dallas and Collin counties, posing as a worker to get access to elderly women.
He reportedly would smother them with a pillow and steal valuables from their homes.
