Pastor Ezekiel Odero of New Life Prayer Centre and church in Mavueni in Kilifi will remain in police custody for two more days to allow detectives to finalize investigations linking him to Shakahola killings.
Shanzu Law Courts Senior Principal Magistrate Joe Amido granted the prosecution until May 4, 2023, to complete investigations.
He ruled that Odero be detained for seven days, starting from April 27, 2023, the day of his arrest, citing concerns that Odero could interfere with witnesses due to his perceived influence.
"The respondent shall be detained for a period of seven days, beginning from April 27, 2023, which is the day of their arrest. For the avoidance of doubt, the detention period shall end on Thursday, May 4, 2023."
Odero was represented by Lawyers Danstan Omari, Cliff Ombeta, and Jared Magolo, among others.
Last Friday, Odero was arraigned before Shanzu Magistrate Court for being accused of jointly and by conspiracy suspected of committing the felony of murder, aiding suicide, abduction, radicalization, genocide, crimes against humanity, child cruelty, fraud and money laundering.
Odero is also linked to controversial Malindi-based preacher, Paul Mackenzie, who is also behind bars for the alleged deaths of his followers in Shakahola in Magarini, Kilifi.
Pastor Ezekiel claimed that yes, he knows pastor Paul Mckenzie BUT, all they had is business and strictly business stating that he is against pastor Mackenzie's teachings
