The National Assembly has passed the finance bill 2023 report where 176 MPs voted yes and 81 MPs voted no.

On 14th June 2023, 176 MPs voted yes in support of the 2023/24 finance bill outnumbering the 81MPs who voted no. The bill was formally tabled in parliament on Tuesday 6th June 2023. Some of the concessions outlined in the amended bill are:

  1. Withholding 5%tax for digital content creation.
  2. 1.5% housing levy contribution by employers and employees.
  3. 12.5% VAT on gaming and betting.

This bill had attracted controversial opinions where content creators clashed with the financial bill proponents. Most digital content creators felt that the bill was unfair since they get little earnings after putting a lot of effort in creating content. Some criticized the government for wanting to leap where it never sow because the it has done little or nothing to help content creators.

Jalango, a former content creator and now a politician, felt that it is just right for content creators to pay tax because some of them make a lot of cash and flaunt it online. Njugush, Eric Omondi, Mulamwah, and many other content creators thought that the bill was unfair. Their feelings notwithstanding, the bill will now be law if the President signs it.
