A woman from Nandi is nursing injuries at Kapsabet Referral Hospital after she was attacked by mob for killing a man she claims defiled her two year old daughter.
The woman identified as Cheptoo had confessed to killing the alleged paedophile over a phone call.
Police officers from Kamombo patrol base arrived at the scene after the area chief reported the incident. The officers however, were barred from accessing the site by an irate mob who were hungry for revenge.
They (mob) wanted to kill Cheptoo. The officers from Kamombo then called for reinforcements from Kapsabet Police Station," Nandi Central Sub-County Police Commander David Anyir said.
The police managed to rescue the woman but we're not able to retrieve the body of the deceased. Cheptoo's house was also burnt to the ground by the mob.
"Our patrol vehicle's windscreen was smashed by residents but we were able to rescue the woman. The mob however barred us from retrieving the deceased's body."
