David Kioko, 25, appeared before Thika Chief Magistrate Phillip Mutua on Tuesday, where the police requested the detention to allow for further investigations.

The suspect is accused of killing 19 year old Faith, whose body was found in her rented room on May 8, 2024.

The police also mentioned their intention to assess the suspect's mental state and gather witness statements.

They are still working on recovering the victim's mobile phone for forensic analysis. The court granted the application on the grounds of public interest and the case will be mentioned on May 28, 2024.

Kioko was arrested after initial investigations suggested that he murdered Faith due to alleged infidelity.

The slain first-year student was eight months pregnant at the time of her death and her lifeless body was discovered last week by her father in her rented room.

While making the application, the Investigating Officer (IO) Oscar Limo informed the court that police require additional time to conduct another autopsy on the deceased’s body and collect samples to determine the DNA composition of her unborn foetus.
