Thirteen Inmates, Including Kware Murder Suspect Collins Jumaisi have Escaped From Gigiri Police Station.
Jumaisi escaped alongside 12 Eritreans detained at the police station over staying in the country illegally.
The police report indicated that the matter was reported by police officers Evans Kipkirui and Gerald Mutuku who were manning the cells.
The officers said they had made their routine visit to the cells with the canteen manager to serve the inmates breakfast when they discovered the suspects had escaped
They had cut a wire mesh that forms part of security to the cells and scaled a perimeter wall escaping.
Director of DCI Mohamed Amin confirmed the incident saying a fresh hunt had been launched on the suspect.
Jumaisi was a top and high-value suspect and had been remanded there pending plea taking on Friday.
Jumaisi is said to have admitted to having killed up to 42 women. He denied the charges.
The suspects had been presented before Makadara Principal Magistrate Irine Gichobi where the prosecution sought the court to allow them to detain the three accused persons for 21 days.
After submissions from both parties, the court ruled that Jumaisi, who is the main suspect, be detained at Gigiri Police Station for seven more days.
“It is unfortunate this has happened but we are pursuing the matter for action,” he said.
