Police Find Woman With Her Husband After Boyfriend Reported Her Missing
Mercy Awuor, was reported missing by her boyfriend Brian Andole On November 9th, Brian told the police that his girlfriend, with whom he had lived in Nairobi for over a year, had been taken.
He reported that the kidnappers asked for a ransom for the 26-year-old and expressed worry for her safety, criticizing the police for their slow action.
After the report, a team from the DCI’s Operations and Crime Research Unit began an investigation.
Mercy was eventually found in Oldonyo Orok, Narok County, living with a man named George Odada, whom she claims is her true husband and with whom she has two children.
Odada stated that he paid dowry for Mercy before she went to Nairobi and got engaged to Andole.
“Their customs require that they give cows, and they have given almost two cows to her parents. So, he is officially married to Mercy. Andole claims she is his wife, but we are discovering she is married to another man,” said the DCI.
Awuor admitted to having an affair and stated that she left to return to her village, suggesting that Andole may have been misled.
She insists she was never kidnapped but chose to end her relationship with Andole. Police have arrested Mercy and Odada, along with a close friend of Mercy, whose phone was allegedly used to demand the ransom.
