Abubakr Abbass, a 23-year-old Kenyan, has emerged as a firm fan favourite and an internet sensation During the football World Cup in Doha Qatar.
Now know as the metro guy, he sits on a tennis-umpire chair and wearing a large foam finger. He guides the hundreds of fans visiting the historic market called Souq Waqif to the metro station nearby.
His helpful advice, “Metro? This way. Metro? This way,” has now become a famous catchphrase.
In a short interview uploaded to his Tik Tok account, he said that he went viral for coming up with an interesting way to direct fans.
Fans from all over the world have commended him for bringing out the best in a simple task and changing the mood of fans with his enthusiasm.
In many of the videos, the man is seen chanting “metro” animatedly, with a group of newfound fans echoing “this way” after him.
He has also received gifts for being creative and performing his job with passion.
