President William Samoei Ruto has disclosed that he will speak to the CEO of TikTok to regulate explicit content in Kenya.

Speaking in Nakuru, the president said he is looking forward to moderation of content and reduction of negative content on the app.

I" will speak to the global CEO of Tiktok and we have moderation capacities on YouTube and X (former Twitter) so that we can agree on a mechanism to moderate content on their space."

The president emphasised that by moderating the platforms, unpleasant content might be reduced and more attention could be given to monetization.

Ruto also disclosed a conversation he had regarding content monetization with Facebook's owners.

"I had a conversation with Facebook and they have agreed to test with 25 of our creators to see how we can monetize content."

This comes days after Speaker of the National Assembly, Moses Wetangula received a petition seeking to ban popular social media application, TikTok in Kenya.

The Executive Officer of Bridget Connect Consultancy Bob Ndolo in a petition to the National Assembly on Tuesday, called on members of parliament in Kenya to ban the use of TikTok saying it is a contributor to erosion of cultural and religious morals in the society.

Bob Ndolo said the content being shared on the platform is inappropriate thus promoting violence, explicit sexual content, hate speech, vulgar language, and offensive behaviours which is a serious threat to cultural and religious values.
