A Catholic Priest left the residents of Ikinu, Githunguri Kiambu county surprised after walking down the aisle with the love of his life.

Reverend Father Edwin Gathang'i Waiguru married Margaret Wanjira Githui after defecting to the Catholic Charismatic church, a Roman Catholic splinter group.

He was also ordained as a Roman Catholic priest on the same day.

Speaking in an interview with NTV, the priest said that his decision to marry was a call from God, a dream he has been harbouring for years.

Father Waiguru said after being sent to preach in North and South America, he felt the need to marry and have a family.

When he returned to Kenya, he decided to marry in a traditional ceremony. The couple was blessed with two children.

He was ordained again as a Charismatic priest and also solemnized his marriage. He said he can now say he has lived to his calling of priesthood

"I thank my wife for accepting to come and be also used by God so that we can show the world that it's possible for somebody to serve God and have a family because God did not make a mistake when he created a man and a woman and he said it is not good for a man to be alone."

Many people who were in the occasion said they have never seen such a thing that you can have a wedding and an ordination at the same time.

The union was overseen by Bishop Patrick Mulau of Kirinyaga Charismatic Church. He emphasised that although the Charismatic Church remained firmly rooted in Roman Catholic beliefs, it deviated from Catholic tradition in allowing its priests to marry.
