Media personality Azziad has shared what led to the breakup with actress and digital content creator Joyce Maina even after publicizing their relationship.

Speaking during an interview with Radio47Ke, the vibrant journalist reminisced that he loved Joyce dearly, however, a couple of things made him reconsider the relationship.

Tony revealed that what led to their early break up was the norm of naming children. He claimed there was a time he was travelling with Joyce and initiated a chat about child naming.

During the talk, he spotted one red flag that he couldn’t accommodate as a Luhya man who takes heed of their traditional cultures. According to Kwalanda, Joyce wanted that when she gives birth, she’s the one to name the children.

"Kuna siku nlkua nimeketi kwa gari tulikua basement parking tukaulizana maswali. Joyce akasema mtoto wangu wa kwanza mimi nataka nimwite hivi, wa pili, wa tatu…nikamskiza tu, nikamwambie unajua sisi kwa ki mila yetu wakabras kule Malaba, sisi wanaume ndio tunaname watoto, Joyce akasema mimi ndio carrier, yaani unanidunga mimba alafu useme wewe ndio utamname, ntamwita jina langu upende usipende, nilimuelewa kwa sababu ya kule ametoka, nikajua hapa tutakua na shida."

Kwalanda also recounted that his final straw in the relationship was when Joyce informed him that he would be cooking for her once she got pregnant. Asked why the sentiments rubbed him the wrong way, the journalist alluded that he saw the remarks as a red flag and that the remarks were unacceptable in their culture.

"si ati siezi pika lakini sisi wanaume kutoka Western ukianza kuskia mtu akianza kusema vitu atafanya mbeleni, thats a red flag, sisi hatupendi kukumbushwa."

The red flags he spotted from Joyce made him end their relationship in March 2021.
