Detectives have arrested a 21-year-old man named Victor Ambeyi for the murder of his employer at her residence in the Njathaini area of Kasarani, Nairobi, Kenya.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) announced on Tuesday, November 12, 2024, that the suspect attempted to conceal the crime by wrapping the victim’s body in a blanket and hiding it in a septic tank on the property.

The victim, 78-year-old Catherine Waceke Kimotho, was reported missing on Saturday while at home.

Her family stated that their attempts to locate her were futile, as her mobile phone was turned off, and they could not determine her location.

On Sunday evening, detectives discovered her body wrapped in blankets and submerged in a septic tank.

She had been murdered, with visible injuries on the back of her head, likely caused by a blunt object.

The body was transported to Kenyatta University Funeral Home while a search for the suspect commenced.

A team of detectives, led by Kasarani DCIO Justus Ombati, along with members from the Criminal Research and Intelligence Bureau in Nairobi, quickly began their investigation.

Through forensic analysis and following leads, the suspect was found hiding at his cousin’s home in Kinoo, Nairobi, and both were taken into custody.

Initial investigations indicated that Ambeyi had worked as a casual laborer in the victim’s home for a month prior to the murder.

During questioning, he confessed to attacking the elderly woman on Saturday after receiving less pay than what they had agreed upon.
