Joyce Aoko, a Kenyan woman who was flown by the government back home for treatment after an assault incident in Albania is dead.

Aoko's mother said that her daughter died on Monday, February 13, 2023, died while receiving treatment at the Kenyatta University Teaching and Referral Hospital (KUTRH).

The 22 year old, was flown home from Albania on 25th January 2023 inorder to receive treatment close to her loved ones.

The State Department for Diaspora Affairs, announced that it organised her repatriation after her condition worsened.

"We found it fit and in Aoko’s best interests, to bring her home to complete her journey of healing among her loved ones, She was hospitalised for treatment and has been in critical condition. Unfortunately, she needed Specialized neurological care which was not available in Albania."

Upon arrival at Wilson airport,Aoko was received by PS of the State Department for Diaspora Affairs Roseline Njogu who made arrangements to move her to the Kenyatta University Teaching, Referral & Research Hospital (KUTRRH) for further treatment.

Joyce Aoko was reportedly attacked by unknown people. She was found unconscious under the building where she lived in Tirana on August 13, 2022.

A police report filed by her neighbour claimed that Aoko had fallen out with a colleague who allegedly sexually assaulted her after dropping her home. 

On September 12, the mother travelled to Albania to see her daughter, but she was in a coma and in bad shape physically.

The devastated mother is seeking justice for her daughter and a conclusive report of what really happened.
