Pioneer Gospel Musician Shari Martin Has Sadly Passed Away. Shari Martin is known for his Famous Songs such as “Yesu Ndio Commando” And “Rafiki Pesa.”
The devastating news of his death were shared by fellow musician Douglas Papjivs Jiveti on social media.
"Pioneer gospel musician Shari Martin has sadly passed on. Such a gifted man. May God rest his soul in eternal peace."
The news was also confirmed by Martin’s close female friend and fellow artist, who identified herself only as Pauline.
Martin had been ill and hospitalised for about a week at Kenyatta National Hospital, where he succumbed to his illness.
The singer fell ill on July 27, 2024, and was rushed to the hospital, where he was diagnosed with pneumonia.
Family and friends are meeting in Chokaa, Kangundo Road-Nairobi at Mzee Matthew Komora’s place.
Shari Martin is remembered for his significant contribution to the Kenyan music scene, particularly his Rafiki Pesa, which resonated with many for its powerful message.
The legendary musician career began in the early 1990s, and he quickly rose to prominence with his powerful lyrics and distinctive voice.
He was a skilled chef and worked in the hotel industry before fully transitioning to music.
His other songs include: Mambo ya Dunia, Tangazo la Ajabu, Wanadamu ni Waongo.
