Nyakio's body was found on October 14, 2024, in a rented apartment in the Biafra area of Thika, Kiambu County. She had left home two days earlier, on Saturday, October 12, to visit a friend.

The deceased was the daughter of nominated MCA Lucy Njeri Mwaniki, who divulged that her daughter was in high spirits when she left her parent's house.
