Social media influencer and actress Jacky Vike, alias Awinja has disclosed that she grew up with selfesteem because of the area Majengo, Nairobi she was raised in.
Speaking recently, the actress said she lacked confidence and selfesteem when growing up because of the neighborhood.
"When you have confidence, there is nothing you cannot do. And that is something I never had based on the neighbourhood I was brought up in," Awinja said.
Awinja said her selfesteem was largely affected due to the lifestyle people had, adding that living normal looked abnormal.
"That area crushed my selfesteem. But it was mostly contributed to by the lifestyle people had. If you led a straight life, you looked abnormal. If you were a girl and had no thug for a boyfriend, you were considered a fool," she added.
The actress famed for her role on TV series Papa Shirandula said most girls back in the neighborhood end up being single mothers because their partners get killed over crime activities.
"What hurt me the most was that I saw how young girls I grew up with were left as single mothers because they were dating thugs who were killed, and I would wonder what kind of a place that is," the mother of one said.
