Celebrated Tanzanian poet Mrisho Mpoto has finally explained why he doesn't wear shoes.
Speaking in a recent interview, the poet said shoes block individuals from all the goodness nature can grant.
Mpoto stated that when one walks barefooted, there is a certain connection between them and nature.
He added that walking barefooted also leaves a person strengthened both physically and mentally.
"For you to live long you have to walk barefooted. Many people nowadays are not mentally fit because they cut their connection with nature by putting on shoes. There is big connection between and the nature," he said.
Mpoto further stated that many have failed to realise their potential and dreams due to their disconnect from nature.
"Shoes have never been part of my life. When you see me putting them on is just to disapprove of those saying that I detest shoes for witchcraft purposes," he said.
The poet, however, noted that in rare instances, he is forced to put on shoes to dismiss claims that dark forces instruct him
Mpoto, 48, owns a handful of companies and businesses in Tanzania's capital.
