Police were treated to a shocking scene after finding used underwears and hairs in illicit brew. Alex Shikondi, the Ruiru sub-county police commander confirmed the news after discovering filthy illicit brew dens along Kamiti river.

The officers raided the brewing dens following intelligence that some brewers could be serving the public with harmful substances. Upon reaching the scene, police were astonished by the level of filthiness in the brew dens. The brewers had used dirty undergarments and huge chunks of human hair as part of the ingredients.

Speaking to the press, Shikondi said "It is a dirty place and the things used to make this brew can cause harm to the bodies of the users".

Police have been putting up a fight against illicit brew following Rigathi Gahagua's directives to crack down illicit alcohol in the central region. The deputy president presided a meeting on April 14 in Nyeri that discussed strategies to halt illicit brew consumption in kikuyu land.

During the meeting, Gachagua said, "Every time I meet with our women from Mt Kenya I feel ashamed of the things they tell me even though I lack words. They remind me how their youths are being killed by an illicit brew and there is nothing we are doing as leaders."
