Traders operating in Mutindwa Market Buruburu estate Nairobi, are counting loses after a fierce fire that burned everything to the ground.

The fire broke out in the early hours of Wednesday morning June 14. Traders and onlookers could only watch helplessly as their livelihoods and goods were consumed by the raging inferno. Properties worth Sh100 million were lost in the inferno. 

The traders suspect that the fire may have been the result of an intentional act of arson.

Angry traders expressed their disappointment with the fire brigade. Eyewitnesses said the fire engines, arrived one hour late and the vehicles were equipped with only half a tank of water.

Embakasi West MP Mark Mwenje revealed that the fire which started at around 2 am, was aggressive.

"Traders at Mutindwa Market have lost goods worth over Sh100 million following the 2 am inferno... Poleni sana watu wangu, we will assess the damage and we must rebuild," he said in a statement.

The fire at Mutindwa Market happened three days after another inferno consumed Toi Market in Nairobi's Kibera area .
