The family of the 20 year old who was found murdered at an  Airbnb along TRM Drive in Roysambu has broken the silence over the gruesome murder of their loved one.

The family revealed that their daughter Rita Waeni Muendo was a student at the Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT).

On the fateful day, she left her aunt's house in Syokimau to go meet a friend. At around 5 am on Sunday, her father received a text message through her phone.

According to the text, the father was required to pay Ksh 500k within 24 hours, for her release.

According to a statement by the family, they reported the matter to the DCI and investigations began.

They shared that two more messages demanding for ransom were sent. Unfortunately they did not get further details about the ransom.

" Additionally, some more demands were made when she had already been murdered," said the family.

“We believe she was lured by her killer, who also tried to extort money from her family, even after killing her,” the family added.

They described her as “an intelligent, smart girl beyond her age at the very start of her youth,” who was known for her kindness, laughter, and “ability to light up any room she entered.”

Detectives revealed that the victim and the suspect allegedly met on the social media platform Instagram.

Days ago, Detectives released a CCTV footage showing the main suspect in the brutal murder of the 20 year old lady.

The man was captured on camera talking on his phone before entering the shop which was adjacent to the Airbnb.

The manager of the Airbnb where he booked the premises on Saturday at 3 pm disclosed that she received a call from the caretaker after discovering suspicious polythene trash bags which contained the body parts.

Yesterday, police arrested a male foreign national at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) on suspicion of being involved in the murder.

The suspect was travelling using a Mozambican passport and was intercepted before boarding a plane

Detectives are still searching for her head and her personal belongings including her clothes and mobile phone.

Condolences to the family and may her soul rest in peace.
