Justice Grace Nzioka has cancelled Jowie Irungu's Bond after he was found guilty of the murder of Kenyan businesswoman Monica Kimani.
Jowie Irungu will be held in custody until March 8, 2024.
"I am cancelling your bond. You will be held in custody until the 8th of March," Justice Nzioka said.
Justice Grace Nzioka said Jowie stole the ID two days prior, armed himself with a gun, carried a kanzu and put it over his clothes, gained access to the apartment of the deceased and murdered Monica Kimani.
"Left the house, changed his clothes and eventually went home and burnt the clothes which he wore during the commission of the offence. All this evidence taken leaves a strong conclusion that Irungu murdered Monica Kimani," she said.
Jowie who is the first accused person had claimed he did not know Monica before her death.
In her ruling, Justice Grace Nzioka described such claims as ‘untenable, insincere, an afterthought and false’.
“Court finds that the first accused person was known to the deceased because they were together at Kenya Polytechnic. They were in the same class,” she stated.
Former TV news anchor Jacque Maribe, who was charged alongside Irungu, has been acquitted of the murder charge.
On Maribe, Justice Nzioka ruled: “It is my considered view that the charge brought against the second accused person (Jacque Maribe) was not the proper charge.”
Monica’s body was found in September 2018 at her Lamuria Gardens Apartment which is located on Kitale Lane off Denis Pritt Road in Kilimani.
