The mother of Kennedy Onyango, the 12 Year old boy who lost his life after being shot during the anti-government protests in Rongai has accused his father of chasing Funeral Expenses Contributions.

Speaking to the media, Kennedy's mum Jocinter Anyango said the dad identified as Denis Okinyi showed up because he is after the funeral contributions.

According to Jocinter, Denis was an absentee father and only became interested in the burial after learning that the government would support the family.

"He has emerged because of money. He heard that all the funeral costs would be catered for. When he heard that, he emerged. I know he is after the money because he told Eric Omondi not to send me the contributions that he is the one to be given."

On Saturday, mourners led by his mother Jocinter Anyango were heading to Rusinga Island to lay him to rest.

The mourners were intercepted in Mbita town by a group led by Kennedy’s father Denis Okinyi, who were armed with a court order stopping the burial of Kennedy in Kamasengre village.

Okinyi claims that his former wife had only lived with the child for one year as Kennedy was under his custody in earlier years.

He claims that he was blocked from viewing the child’s body in Nairobi, only to realise that burial was to take place in Rusinga. Hence his decision to move to court to stop the burial.

Jocinter has sought President William Ruto’s intervention, stating that the head of state called her to express his condolences.
