A Memorial Service For 21 Boys From Hillside Endarasha Academy Who Died In A Dormitory Fire Took Place At Mweiga Stadium In Nyeri County.
The service comes nearly a week after government pathologist Johansen Oduor confirmed that the DNA samples of the victims had been run and matched with their parents.
The service was graced by Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and other leaders.
The deputy president asked the Ministry of Education to ensure the safety of learners in school.
Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka urged relevant stakeholders to consider renaming Hillside Endarasha Academy in honour of the 21 pupils.
Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba read out the names of the 21 pupils, noting that they needed to be remembered.
"I have read these names because I want each one of us to know that they are not just numbers and that they are not just going to be part of statistics. That is why I have read their names because we need to remember their names."
Kalonzo pledged his support for both the school and the parents who have been left devastated by the incident.
One of the school’s dormitories which had housed 156 boys was gutted down by fire on September 6 leaving the 21 learners dead.
It is not yet known what caused the fire at Hillside Endarasha Academy.
