Faith Kipyegon has proved to be a rare gem after breaking two world records in one week. Barely one week after breaking the world record in 5000m women's race, she confirmed her prowess on track after breaking another record in 1500m.
The 29 year old mom from Kenya set a new world record after running 5000m in 14 minutes 5.20 seconds. This was at the IAAF Diamond League "Meeting de Paris" athletics meeting at the Charlety Stadium in Paris on June 9, 2023. The previous record was held by Letesenbet Gidey from Ethiopia who set it at 14:06:02. Faith was delighted for her achievement although it wasn't her plan to set a new world record.
"When I saw that it was a world record, I was so surprised. The world record was not my plan. I just ran after Gidey", she said.
The best part is that this took place 8 days after breaking another world record in women's 1500m, which she completed in 3:49.11 at the third Diamond League meeting of the season in Florence. What a way to confirm to the word that you are the best. Congratulations Faith.
